I haven’t blogged in a while. Well, it hasn’t actually been that long. Just a little over a week but my goal was to post more often and the result is about 10 drafts chillin’ in my inbox.

Work has me busy. Got me running around. Life has me busy too. Running. Every time I try and stop to catch my breath, the whistle blows again and it’s time run.

Can I call a 20 second timeout?

I need to set up my defense cause the wrong people keep scoring on me. Backdoor cuts and easy layups. That Princeton offense crap. We don’t play that way in the streets. Caught me sleeping. I’m too busy looking at people in the stands, worried about what they think. Too busy watching this dudes fancy dribble. Instead I need to focus on the ball. I need to focus on getting a stop. Sometimes offense begins on defense.

Call a timeout coach!

I need to realize that this is much bigger than me. I know there are scouts looking at me everyday but do they really care about how many points I score? No. They’re going to look at my whole game. How I play defense. How I run the offense. How I read the defense and adjust to call the right play. How I execute. How I lead my team.

It’s much bigger than you and when you finally realize what or who or why you’re playing the game, you’ll get a whole new appreciation. You’ll feel revived, renewed, and more importantly, you’ll feel relieved. It’s so easy to lose your focus over the course of a season. It’s so hard to get up for every opponent and sometimes you’re going to catch that L and lose by 30 cause it was just an off night but you can’t let that get you down, no matter how long your slump is. You’ve got to let it go. You’re only allowed to think about how you’ve messed up for a short period of time then erase your memory (get that men in black stick and zap yourself) and step back on the court and get it.

Don’t be afraid to call that timeout and reset yourself. Everyone needs to catch their breath sometimes.

You know what they say right?

Thoughts become actions.

Not just in the positive sense. But in the negative as well.

One of my pet peeves are people who complain ALL THE TIME. The minute you ask them how they’re doing, it’s like the floodgates open.

“Ohhh these damn bills”….”Ohhh my man is an idiot”…….”Oohhh this chick is getting on my nerves”…….”Ohhhh I can’t find a man”………..”Ohh life sucks”

*Yawn*

No disrespect. I know times are hard but can you find something to celebrate about life? Anything? How about the fact that you’re breathing to say those complaints?

Anything?

When my mom was raising me as a single mom, working two jobs, basically busting her backside, I rarely heard her complain to someone outside of family, that life was kicking her butt. She smiled, said everything was good, and took it in stride unless of course she really needed help.

I guess she passed that on me and it took me a while to get here but I’m here. Even if things are bad, if you ask me, 9 times out of 10, I’ll tell you that everything is good because I don’t want you in my business and everything really is good, I’m just going through a bump in the road. Everyone has to go through some type of journey but not everyone seems to learn the lessons.

I cut a good amount of people from my life just because of their attitudes and after being be-friended by a few on Facebook recently, I’m glad I did what I did. Some were negative to me. Some weren’t exactly supportive. As much as I tried to be supportive to them, they negate me. Then all of sudden it felt like their life became my life.

And when I told someone to “stop bringing the world into their problems” , they got mad and called me selfish. Good riddins’…..

If you make a bad decision, well, it’s a bad decision. Deal with it and correct course along the way.

Be responsible for your own actions. Then get back to handling your business.

Don’t you hate it when things don’t go your way.

I mean, you plan for things to happen a certain way and then all of a sudden, something unexpected happens and throws a monkey wrench in your whole program.

How do you deal with it?

Do you go in the corner, shut off the world and suck your thumb in disgust?

I’m seeing a lot of grown ass people – adults – wild out because they don’t get something or something doesn’t go their way. I mean they start bugging out. Taking it out on people who really don’t deserve it or blaming “it” on someone else.

Why not just sit down and think about the reason why “it” just happened? Was it something you did wrong? Is it a situation that’s out of your control? Did you plan? Can you adjust? Does God think you’re ready?

Nobody likes rejection. Nobody likes to deal with failure but there are people who can accept rejection and failure and turn it into a positive. Those are the ones that come out on top. Every single time. The ones who pout, they never really move forward because they can’t face the reality.

I don’t know where people get these qualities from but I can speak from my perspective. I learned this playing sports growing up. If my team lost a game, we had guys who would bitch and moan and take it personal. Then there were guys like me who realized that yeah we lost but we had to brush it off and get ready for the next game.

Same type of reasoning I use now. Life throws me a few punches. I get a couple of black eyes. I’ll take a minute to think about how I got jacked up, what went wrong and then I get right back in the ring and start fighting.

I just deal with it.
