you ain’t guarding the door, so whatcha gotta gun for” – MC Lyte “Self Destruction”

Gilbert Arenas. Plaxico Burress. Your favorite rapper. Countless others.

I don’t know what to say. I don’t even know how to start but I’m sitting here trying to think outside the box here for a second. I’m  trying to place myself in their shoes. I need a million dollar contract. I need to feel invincible but yet I need to protect my fortune. Maybe that’s it.

Maybe it’s something psychological. I’ve read articles about how Arenas’ mom left him when he was young. No doubt that would have a scarring effect on him because he could always be searching for that love and bond that she broke.

A Funky Fresh Holiday

December 24th, 2009 A.F.Fresh 4 comments

Today started out like any other day. I was supposed to go to work.  I don’t usually take vacations around this time. Guess I’m weird like that. I like to take my vacations when everybody returns. That way I get a week of quiet at work and I avoid the week of craziness when people return.

Anyway, while driving in this morning I decided I wasn’t feeling it, so I called in and told them to count me out. They were working a half day anyway so it wasn’t a big deal. What did I do instead? Start my Christmas shopping. (Yes I said start…..)

I had a list. I knew the store and the items and if I couldn’t find it now, they’ll get it afterwards. I hit the mall. In at 8:15am, out by 9:15am (brother don’t play nor have time for the bullshuckas).  I ran a few more errands and I’m home now, typing this entry and operating the resident neighborhood daddy day care. Somehow I got nominated to watch a bunch of kids while parents do some last minute shopping and wrap gifts.(for the life of me I can’t figure out who this big headed little dude is……) With that I type and become random:

December 15th, 2009 A.F.Fresh 4 comments

Me: Did you finish making that Christmas list for Santa?

Lil Freshalina: Yup. Wanna see it?

Me: Sure. (reading it to myself while she leaves the room) Hmmm…..Nintendo DSi, Wii games, clothes, Uggs, iPod Touch (oh this chick is buggin), Netbook (oh nah she’s must be inhaling Elmer’s Glue at school), Easy Bake Oven or Microwave…….random other gifts.

Me: Show this to mommy.

Mommy: Let’s see. (reading the list out loud)…..Nintendo DSi, clothes, Uggs, iPod Touch? Huh? Netbook (weird look on face), Easy Bake Oven….ok……DJ HERO? What?

Lil Freshalina: DJ Hero?!?!? I didn’t put that on there……

Mommy: Yeah I know. It looks nothing like your handwriting……

Me: * walking away whistling*

Like my title? I’m sure ma dukes would be pleased to know her college educated son still talks like that. I’s ’spose to be proper and an astute professional. (you like that Sixty?!?! I used the word astute in a sentence) but my title (and the video over here———->
is a shout out to one of my favorite rappers of all time…Reggie Noble aka Redman.

Moving on……….

When I woke up on Monday this past week, I said “Damn I can’t wait till Friday”. I knew it was going to be that kind of week and I was right. So right that tomorrow I’m rocking jeans to work. Yeah yeah doesn’t everybody? Well not quite in this new environment I’m in. Stuffy is the word. Hey, I’ll go with the preppy look. I’ll leave the Timbs at home and wear shoes and a tie with a sweater or some ish. They’ll never know. Remind me to tell you how the guy tried to convince me that Dockers are the greatest think since sliced bread. Silly Rabbit.

December 3rd, 2009 A.F.Fresh 6 comments

You weren’t surprised of Tiger’s “transgressions” were you?

No. Seriously.  Were you?

He’s a high profile professional athlete who’s made over a billion dollars so far. He’s recognized every where he goes and he’s a man.

So let me ask you again. You weren’t surprised were you?

I mean Bill Clinton got head in the O.v.a.l O.f.f.i.c.e. You weren’t surprised were you?

The turkey has been devoured.

The family has received their hugs.

The leftovers have been packed and now probably out with tomorrow’s trash. (there’s only so many variations of turkey possible)

The traffic has been dealt with (and let me tell you, the NJ Turnpike was a bee-atch)

And T.iger Wo.ods basically told the police and media to back the fugg up and mind their business…………

In my head…..crazy thoughts

November 24th, 2009 A.F.Fresh 6 comments

Just got back from the gym.

There’s a shorty in there that I usually see whenever I work out at night. I’m telling you man, she looks JUST like this porn star but I know it’s not her. But damn…..the resemblance is crazy.  Maybe they are sisters? How do you ask someone that? “Excuse me, does your sister take nuts for a living?!” Just curious…..

There was another girl in the gym who talked on her cell phone from the minute she walked in until I left. We came in together. 1 hour 15 minutes later, she still yapping. She was moving mega-slow on the treadmill. Walking like she was walking with a little baby who’s learning how to walk. I’m saying……was the call that serious? She was better off skipping the workout.

A friend of mine refuses to join the new gym I go to. She says it’s too far to drive for a workout. Funny shit is, she drives past it every weekday to go to one particular Starbucks because the service is better. I guess she likes her stomach and coffee the same size. Mucho grande (or whatever the hell it is. I’m not a coffee drinker)…..

While I don’t doubt that Taylor Swift has talent, there’s no doubt in mind that her some of her rise to celebrity has to be because of that Kanye West incident. I’m not saying ‘Ye is the major factor because ole girl has skills but his little bitchass incident added to her meteoric rise.

If that Sarah Palin picture that was sexist on Newsweek was on the front cover of the magazine she took the photo for (Runner’s World or something), would she still have considered it sexist? Was it the photo or the use of the photo? Someone please explain.

“Have a baby by me baby, be a millionaire” <—————- thank you Fiddy for giving groupie’s an anthem.

The Power of a Decision

November 18th, 2009 A.F.Fresh 5 comments

I had a conversation with one of my boys last night that stemmed from my post yesterday. We got to talking about why it seems like some people always find themselves in situations and others seemed to avoid bad situations like a plague. One of the conclusions we came up with:

People don’t respect the Power of a Decision.

Of course there are a lot of things you can’t control. But the situations that some people find themselves in nowadays are easily avoidable. Case in point, if you’re a woman and you meet a man with 7 children by 5 different women, why would not make him use protection knowing that you could add to his stats? (Why would you even bother to sleep with him is the real question). The point is you can think before you do.

A lot of times, you’re not forced. You don’t have to sleep with her/him. You don’t have to buy that item (even though you do it to keep up with the Joneses). You don’t have to…..but a lot of times you want to and if you do, you need to take some time, a minute, a second, whatever and consider the consequences that go along with your actions. Then accept it. Be sure to accept it. Make your move and then move on.

(Sidebar: I believe that people remain stagnant in life because they get stuck on a decision they made years ago and have yet to let it go and move on. Sometimes you just have to play the cards your dealt)

You know when we were younger, we all had this air of invincibility. We were walking super heroes. We could recover from anything. We could bounce back from any and everything that was thrown at us. But the older you got, the heavier your decisions were and that shield you had slowly went away and you became vulnerable.  Sometimes you feel defenseless. But it’s okay. It’s part of life.

While I think it’s okay at times to have a “FTW” (f*ck the world) mentality, I think way too many people jump without looking to see where they’re going to land.

It’s your right to decide what you want to do. No one, whether they agree or disagree can take them from you.

Situation

November 16th, 2009 A.F.Fresh 12 comments

Let me run this situation by you guys and see what you think.

A woman, let’s call her Michelle. Michelle is married to Michael. Michelle has a best friend, who just happens to be a male. We’ll call him Will. Michael is aware of Will. He knows Will although they only met at his wedding but he knows that Michelle and Will are good friends and they talk fairly regularly. He knows about Will’s poor decision making when it comes to women. (Will has ummm baby mama drama from 2 or 3 different women).

More Random

November 13th, 2009 A.F.Fresh 4 comments

I saw a magazine for only “mixed” women. That’s not who the audience was but it was who the magazine featured. Seriously?

It bugs me out when people blame other people for their lack of success. Ultimately you are responsible for you. If someone helps you out and get started, then it’s up to you to do the rest. Carry on the torch. Do you. When it’s all said and done, if you haven’t accomplished a lot it’s your fault. It has nothing to do with the person who gave you the start unless they are powerful and slandered your name. If you’re an adult and you’re  complaining about something because someone didn’t continue doing something for you, then you’re a baby. Grow up. (ya hear me Beanie Siegel?)
