I Be Dat

December 10th, 2009 A.F.Fresh

Like my title? I’m sure ma dukes would be pleased to know her college educated son still talks like that. I’s ‘spose to be proper and an astute professional. (you like that Sixty?!?! I used the word astute in a sentence) but my title (and the video over here———->
is a shout out to one of my favorite rappers of all time…Reggie Noble aka Redman.

Moving on……….

When I woke up on Monday this past week, I said “Damn I can’t wait till Friday”. I knew it was going to be that kind of week and I was right. So right that tomorrow I’m rocking jeans to work. Yeah yeah doesn’t everybody? Well not quite in this new environment I’m in. Stuffy is the word. Hey, I’ll go with the preppy look. I’ll leave the Timbs at home and wear shoes and a tie with a sweater or some ish. They’ll never know. Remind me to tell you how the guy tried to convince me that Dockers are the greatest think since sliced bread. Silly Rabbit.

Anyway, enough about that. Anyone want to guess the worse part of the week? I’ll give you a second or two…………

Ok that’s enough. Your boy Fresh had JURY DUTY. (and the crowd goes Boooooooooooooooooooo)

Now I didn’t have to serve on any trials but damnit if it was close. I was pre-selected for two trials. You know your boy was thinking please give me a civil trial. I’d love to sit on a jury for the case of something simple like hey the pet groomer shaved too much hair of my dog Pebbles! Guilty bishes! Guilty!

But did I get civil?

Nope.

I got pre-selected for two CRIMINAL trials. So I go to the first one and I’m thinking, please be something like car theft. I sit and here the charges….ATTEMPTED MURDER. Geesh.

We go through the voir dire process and when it’s done, I don’t get selected. Whew! I go back to the dreaded room hoping we get dismissed because it’s close to lunch time but do we? Nooooooooooooooooo…….

Next trial….criminal…..charges……DOUBLE MURDER. Are you f*cking kidding me?!?!  Same voir dire process. Same answers. I don’t get selected.  Whew! (again)

I knew about both of these cases. I didn’t need nor want that stress in my life especially when I saw media sitting outside the courthouse.  Anybody have jury duty stories?

This weekend is filled with parties (birthday and holiday) so I’ll gladly have a drink or two or three………I’ll Beee Dat…..

Is jury duty really that bad? Sounds kind of fascinating to me! Lol.

Ugh. Jury duty is the worst! I live in DC so everyone gets called every two years like clockwork. Last time, I had Grand Jury Duty where there is no pre-selection process (i.e., getting off the hook). They don’t ask you any questions; you just show up and start serving. You can imagine the characters that we had in the room. It’s a little different because it’s a larger group, we listened to prosecutor’s witnesses and voted on whether they had enough to charge folks and take it to trial. The very best part was that we were required to show up M-F, 9-5 for FIVE weeks.

I’m the crazy person that loves to serve on juries! *lol* I’ve gotten called 4 times, but I’ve only served once. It was a federal case related to mail and insurance fraud. Loved watching the process work. Case was 4 days and we deliberated for 2. I would love to serve again. I wouldn’t be super happy if it was a murder trial, but I’d still want to be picked.

I had jury duty in april. wasn’t selected. It wasn’t anything serious or interesting. It was rumored they weren’t choosing “educated” people…..I’m a grad student in a college football town. So that left most of the local yokels. Got paid 5 whole dollars for my time.

No, no jury duty stories. I’m still technically a Georgia resident (?) and whenever they used to send stuff, I said I would be in school for 5 more years. It’s worked twice.
I did some nonprofit work with death penalty cases in Atlanta. That is the most taxing shit you can ever do. You DO NOT want that stress. NOT. NEVER. NO.

Yea, that’s my joint right there..hmm might make that my ‘anthem’ for the rest of ’09.

Ugh, I can’t stand jury duty. My boy(in Jerz) got picked and has been on for the past 2 weeks..yea he’s NOT a happy camper right now.

We gotta catch up, soon. I’ll email ya.
